Dr. Konstantin Frank Tasting at Unwine'd: A Midweek Wine Break

Last week, my older daughter, Sophia, and I took a little midweek break and headed to Unwine'd in Rochester for a Dr. Konstantin Frank tasting event.

Unwine'd opened in September 2023 and offers a fun, interactive self-pour wine experience right in downtown Rochester. It was a perfect way to spend a Wednesday night: great wine, great food, and even better company.

Sophia worked three summers in Boundary Breaks’ tasting room, so these outings are extra fun for us. She brings her behind-the-bar experience, and we share an ever-growing 'student of wine' perspective. In fact, we’re even taking a WSET 2 class together in August.

But back to the tasting. The evening started with a beautiful glass of Dr. Frank’s Brut Rosé, which was a perfect way to kick off a tasting. Bright, crisp, and full of tiny bubbles, it was the first of five wines served to pair with a delicious cheese board.

After that, we worked our way through a lineup of Dr. Frank classics:

  • Dry Riesling — Classic Finger Lakes profile: crisp acidity, citrus and stone fruits, and a clean, mineral finish

  • Rkatsiteli—Floral and herbal notes, with hints of honey, stone fruit, and a fuller texture.

  • Sauvignon Blanc — Very aromatic and so bright and zippy, with grapefruit and tropical notes.

  • Gewürztraminer — The aromatics were beautiful on this one. Lychee, rose petals, and spice, with just enough sweetness to balance the bold flavors.

I always love tasting Dr. Frank wines because they do such a great job balancing old-world influence with what makes the Finger Lakes so special.

If you haven't been to Unwine'd for one of their events or just to taste their assortment of wines, I highly recommend it. Great vibe, relaxed setting, and they always showcase some of the best of FLX wines.

Thanks for following along—more stories (and wines) to come. If you want to stay updated on the latest posts, make sure to subscribe to our blog. And don’t forget to check out our Facebook group, Finger Lakes Food and Wine Adventure.

Cheers from the lake!
