Tasting a Riesling Classic: Dr. Frank + Keuka Lake Outings
Following up on our recent tasting of Dr. Konstantin Frank wines at Unwine’d in Rochester, let’s head to the next stop on our Finger Lakes Food & Wine Journey.
In 2021, Scott and I savored the zesty acidity and crisp stone fruit of the 2019 Dr. Frank Riesling right at home. It reminded us why this wine remains one of the benchmarks of the region: bright citrus, green apple, and wet stone. It’s dry and vibrant, with the kind of energy that pairs perfectly with lake breezes and a slow afternoon.
We filmed our tasting (check out the video below), but if you’re heading to Keuka’s west side today, you’ll want to note that the restaurant we suggested, Waterfront Restaurant , is now closed.
But don’t worry, there are lots of other places to visit after your tasting. Here are just a few:
Lakeside Restaurant & Tavern (13780A West Lake Rd, Hammondsport)
Classic lakeside vibes with indoor and outdoor seating—and yes, a dock. A solid choice for everything from sandwiches and burgers to local trout and wine by the glass. It’s casual and dependable, with views that steal the show.
Y-Knot Eatery & Country Store (9208 County Route 74, Pulteney)
A tucked-away spot that feels like a true local discovery. It’s part country store, part takeout counter, serving pizza, hoagies, wings, and big salads. Great for a low-key lunch.
The Cinnamon Stick Gourmet Shop (26 Shethar St, Hammondsport)
A charming little store in the heart of the village, filled with locally made sauces, jams, baking mixes, wine jellies, and kitchen goodies. It’s the kind of place you wander into after lunch and walk out with three gifts you didn’t plan to buy. Friendly staff, Finger Lakes flavors, and shelves full of giftable treats make it a worthwhile stop.
